Govanni De Medici Pikemen

I am planning to play a "pike & shot" taking place in Renaissance Italy. For such an army cannot miss a pikemen unit!

I painted 24 infantrymen and based them on 4x4cm bases. The rank is 3 bases wide (12 men) and by now I have 4 ranks deep. I plan in the future to enlarge the unit to be 6 ranks deep, therefor adding extra 12 pikemen.

They are painted as Johanni De Medici's troops. They wear that purple/violet (paonazzo in Italian) proper of the "Gran Diavolo" (Great Devil) uniforms, if so they can be called. Even the banner is the one following the historical sources.
A common mistake is to paint the white stripes (bande) in black, once the name Black Bands of Johanni de Medici. But apparently the banner changed only with the dead of the Captain himself and not, as it is oft said, whit the dead of Pope Leo X.

The unit is generic enough that, with the change of the banner, can be played as Milanese, Venetian, or Swiss.

The models are metal Mirliton Italian Pikemen with messing pikes.
